Keyword Research: How to build a money making Website

I have seen lot of Newbies and even self acclaimed bloggers makes mistakes when it comes to keyword research. Keyword Research is no doubt, one of the most confusing concepts in setting up and building a website. From reading different blogs, I have come to find out that bloggers have different approach when it comes to keyword researching. And one funny thing is that they all work! Or some work.

The success or failure of a website depends solely on your keyword research, though you don’t have total control of finding those hidden golden keywords that split money into your bank account.

Well, one thing for sure that Authority website have over micro niche site, is that it will rank for 100s of keywords and from there you might hit one of the golden keyword!

This might surprise you a little bit. I even have a run down with someone at www.comluv.com who is a SEO provider and I told him how crappy some Seo services are, of course this piece him off and he came down on me with  all the wrath he got. One surest way to ruin your keyword research is depending on keyword research tools. Most of the keyword research tools are inaccurate and draw data from the cloud. Tools can give you figures and estimates. But you can’t depend solely on them for your keyword research. I told the comluv guy that the same apply to ranking a website, you cannot depend on tools like scrapebox and GSA to rank your site for long term, it will burn out and leave you dried. Unless you are building a churn and burn kind of sites.

Keyword research tools are okay, but you don’t have to depend solely on them when conducting your keyword research… You have seen professional bloggers who said they spent hours searching for keywords! But this bloggers have more SEO tools that they need. Why not just plug the keywords and then be done with?

… Okay, So, How do you do your keyword Research?
I have made some mistakes in the past and even recently… I went on a research on how to build an Authority niche site. I read over 510,000 words of articles explaining how to properly do keyword research and build a website that rank well in www.google.com and other search engine like www.bing.com and www.yahoo.com . Enough rambling about me already, let see how to properly do keyword research…

Ok, so you have your Main/Seed Keyword. For the sake of illustration, we are going to choose “money” as our seed keyword, and our website is money.com

Then we are going to select our categories using long tail keywords… business, investing tips, finance,  resources…etc.

Warning: having a link like money.com/money-tips would give a great over-optimization penalty
You should NEVER mention the same keyword twice in your url. So your category link should be something like money.com/tips and then the sub-keyword would be something like this. money.com/tips/business
We have selected our keyword and sub-keywords and has arranged our category to avoid getting penalize for over penalization.

Setting the article format on the site: For this purpose, we have two options. The blog style, were you have categories and keep adding new articles. Then, it will be SEO wise as keywords are not related to each other. You can target any keyword you want under your main keyword and write about it without bothering about over optimization much. I will end here as more on this will be publish on my next post.
